Evie and Presley's First Dentist Appointment AND a Police Picnic!

Today was an important day in the life of Evie and Presley Weiss.  They had their first dentist appointment.  I brought a reinforcement..aka...Grandma.  I wasn't sure how they would do.  Big sis Gracie was showing them the ropes.  While she didn't get a cleaning, they did put some flouride on her teeth because we have issues with her teeth.  Plus, I needed them to fill out her dental report for Kindergarten!  Yikes.  Here she is showing them how to sit in the chair like a big girl/boy.

Evie thought she could do it.  She was brave and climbed right up.
That was until the hygenist came in and the I had to sit on a chair and help hold her so she could clean her teeth.

She wasn't too  happy.

Upon seeing that, Presley, who is even less brave than is sister, had to have his turn.  Here is what it looked like.
Again, not a happy camper.

It was pretty much as I expected. They chilled out waiting for the doctor by coloring on the back of their health history sheets.
Gracie, who was already done, and apparently thought she needed sunglasses in the room, was taking lunch orders on her pad that they chose as one of her prizes for doing a good job.
So when Dr. Tom came in, I made thid guy go first. Again, not so good.
And not so good again.
But when it was all said and done, they got a new toothbrush, new toothpaste, and some prizes.  Evie bravely climbed back into the chair to show them off.

This guy, yeah well, he just chilled in the corner. He was having no more part of this dentist thing.
Evie and Presley's teeth looked ok.  We have to work at brushing their back teeth.  That is hard to do since both of them want to be independant and do it themselves.  Brushing teeth is a tricky business in this household and actually Evie still doesn't have all of her teeth!  Yet again, I walked out of there feeling like a big fat failure as a parent in the dental hygiene campaign.  Oh, and Evie has some sort of fungus on her tongue.  What is up with that?  I don't know.  All I can think of is Natinal Lampoon.  Maybe it's the hillbilly roots........

After some naps, we headed to the park because the Plainfield Police Department were throwing our neighborhood a picnic!  We walked there because we have some neat trails that can take you there.
First we played on the park.
Gracie kept wanting an "underdog" but she kept calling it a "dog under."  Thanks Holly!
But there was a fire truck there.  I had been talking that thing up all day!  Too bad no one really wanted to sit in it.
And then finally, this dude decided it was time to pretend to drive it!
And we even got to climb in the back!  Grandpa liked it too.  I think he asked the firefighters a bazillion questions too.
This girl thought she was hot stuff.
And then the boy who was afraid of it at first, well, we couldn't get him out of it.  He literally spent the entire time just chilling in the fire truck. Thankfully no one was waiting in line.

Then we checked out the truck by touching the wheels.  Oh.....Ah....
Then Gracie tried on the firefighter jacket and helmet.
Evie had to have her turn driving too.
Oh, and they had the DARE car there too but that wasn't cool enough so we had to head back to the fire truck.  After we ate hot dogs cooked by the police of course.
Presley was literaly climbing all over the place.
And Evie wouldn't get off her seat.  She just kept batting her eyelashes at all the cute firemen that were there.
And this guy just couldn't sit still.  He was checking everything out, including the windows.
And then the police were kind enough to raffle off prizes.  Evie got a DARE frisbee and Gracie got a baton that makes noises.  Thanks!  Prelsey won a DARE hat but screamed and went running away (sound familiar?) and crying til some girl was kind enough to trade her frisbee for his hat.  He said "ok" and we headed home after that.  That was of course after he said his goodbyes to the fire truck.

So thank you Dr. Tom and staff for dealing with our dentist insecurities.  And thank you Plainfield Police and Fire Fighters for planning a fun picnic.  Thank you firemen for letting my son hang out in your truck for like 2 hours!
